How to Avoid Hearing "We're Booored!" | Sophia's Style

This summer the weather has been downright moody in Nebraska!  One day it's hot and sunny, the next it's pouring rain, and another it'll be so humid you can barely stand to step outdoors!  Keeping energetic kids busy when they can't play outside is never easy, and I should know, I used to be the nanny for five children.  When you've got a vacuming to do, laundry to wash and fold, and dinner to cook, you just can't afford to give the kids your full attention.  My favorite way to keep them busy was to set them up with an activity they could play together.  Here's one they really loved: 

The game is called "What Changed?"

• Have the kids sit in one room, and choose one to stand up and have everyone look very closely at what they're wearing and how they're wearing it. 
• Have the child leave the room and change something about his or her appearance (like maybe take off their socks or turn a baseball cap backwards).
• Have the child return to the room and let the others guess what changed! 
• Whoever guesses right can go next, or, to avoid anyone being left out, you could have them all alternate. 

Once you get this game going, you can just listen to them play while you work on other things!  Even if you don't have many kids yourself, this is a good activity for times when you might be hosting a sleepover or party of some kind.

Toddler and Baby Summer Activities | Sophias Style

Now that Spring has FINALLY arrived, slip her little feet into a pair of these comfy baby girl shoes and toddler shoes for girls and head outdoors! Just be careful to steer clear of any thorny rosebushes or all the fun might end with a pop! (I speak from personal experience. This happened with my kids when they were young and it took a long time to dry all those tears!)

Ice Cube Melt Relay Race For Kids of All Ages

Now that temperatures are finally heating up, it’s time to head outdoors! Break out the sunscreen, trendy sunglasses and girls swimwear, then turn on the sprinkler or hose down the slip ‘n slide. Here’s another fun game you can add to the outdoor festivities. This Ice Cube Melt Relay race is a great group activity for children of all ages, so everyone from wee ones in baby girl swimwear to pre-teens can join in on the fun.

Here’s all you will need:
• Two teams with an equal number of players
• Two ice cubes that are the same size

This game is pretty simple but still tons of fun! Freeze two ice cubes, one for each team (the bigger the better). Arrange each team in a single file line and let each team member hold the ice cube for a set amount of time, about 20-30 seconds. At the sound of a whistle or some other signal, they player must pass the ice cube off to the next teammate behind them. The first team to completely melt their ice cube wins!

Summer Swimming Pool Game For Kids | Sophias Style

It may seem like winter is never going to end, but I promise summer will be here before we know it! It’s time to find the perfect girls swimsuits and plan all those fun warm weather activities we love so much. No doubt one of their favorite things to do is swim in the pool. While lounging in the sun on a beach raft is our idea of “swimming”, for kids it’s like any other activity. They need structure and direction or they’ll get bored, fighting and tears will break out and suddenly everything is wrapped in chaos!

This year try playing Pool Change Drop to keep them occupied. Empty out that change bucket into the pool while all the kids stand outside of the water. At the count of 3, let all the kids jump in and dive for change. After all the loose change has been collected, count it up and see who has the most. Then they can stash their earnings in the piggy bank for a rainy day!

Another great variation on this game is to mark plastic tokens (you can find them at party supply stores) with different amounts using a black permanent marker. Toss them in the pool and let the kids dive. At the end they can add up the amounts they’ve collected. Later on take the kids to the store and let them pick out one toy or item that is worth that amount. It might be a good idea to make the highest token amount be no more than $1, or this game could get expensive! Save the tokens and you can use them again for the same game next year.
